What information we gather from our users

All the information that we request and gather from you is used to make your experience on our websites as enjoyable and efficient as possible. Currently you need to provide information to take advantage of features such as making a purchase in our online store.

When you make a purchase on the store on canadiancartographics.com, we ask you for your full name, billing address, telephone number, email address, and credit card information. If you want your order shipped to someone other than yourself, you will need to provide us the name and address of the recipient.

When you contact us with a question or a comment, you will need to provide your full name and email address.

We use a cookie to help us determine repeat visits to canadiancartographics.com; this cookie may be assigned to any user of our website. This cookie does not contain any personally identifiable information, and simply helps us better understand if we are providing services that are valuable to our users. How we use the information we gather

We use the information that we gather online to improve your experience when you shop with us, plan your road trips, get maps and driving directions, and register software products. This data is generally used in the aggregate to give us demographic information about the users who visit our site, shop at our online store, and take advantage of our promotions.

We gather information about how many people are visiting our websites and which features they are using most often. This information helps us deliver features and develop products and services that are useful to our customers. We also gather aggregate (not individual) technical information to better understand the browsers, operating systems, and Internet service providers used to access our websites, to ensure that we are meeting the technical needs of our users.

When you contact us with a question or feedback, we use the contact information you provide to get back to you promptly and directly. When you make an online purchase with us, we use your billing information for credit card verification. We need your email address and telephone number to quickly resolve any problems with your order and to let you know the status of your order.

We may provide your contact information to business units within CCC that can provide you with product registration, technical support, discounts, products or business services.

We use location information (street address, city, province/state, postal/zip code, etc.) to provide you with the maps, directions, and other features you request.  We may use this location information to provide you with geographically appropriate promotional and product information within our site, and we may use this information in aggregate to better understand how our users use our site.

Our sharing of your information

We do not share your personally identifiable information with any third parties outside of CCC and its subsidiaries.

We share overall customer, traffic, and trend information (but not personally identifiable data) with other respectable third parties. For example, we might say that half of the visitors to candiancartographics.com also visit our online store. We also share aggregate information (general patterns and totals), but individual data, with our partner companies in order to help them better understand and monitor the reach of our partnership promotion.

CCC may use a third party, to track and analyze non-identifying and aggregate usage and volume statistical information from our visitors and customers to administer our websites. All data collected by any third party on our behalf is owned and used only by CCC. We reserve the right to publish anonymous, aggregate summary information regarding our website visitors for promotional purposes and as a representative audience for advertisers. Please note that this is not personal information, only general summaries.

It is possible that CCC, its subsidiaries, or any combination of such, could merge with or be acquired by another business entity. Should this occur, you should expect that some or all of your information would be shared so that we can continue to provide our services. We will endeavor to provide notice of such event (to the extent it occurs) and we will require that the new combined entity follow the practices disclosed in this Privacy Policy.

Changing your personally identifying information and opting out

If you registered on canadiancartographics.com or subscribe to our Perly’s subscription services, you let us know your preference for receiving promotional emails from us when you completed your customer profile. We ask if you are interested in receiving special offers and announcements from us, and may use the information you provide as part of our efforts to keep our customers informed of our products, services, and promotions. To stop receiving promotional emails from us, we ask that you update your preferences. To do so, you'll first need to sign in (if you haven't already done so). Protection for Children

Children should always ask a parent or guardian for permission before providing any personal information to CCC or purchasing any products or services from CCC.  We do not knowingly collect or solicit personally identifying information from or about children under 13. If we discover we have received any information from a child under 13 in violation of this policy, we will delete that information immediately. If you believe CCC has any information from or about anyone under 13, please contact us in the manner provided for below.

Security on CCC websites

We use an industry standard encryption process called SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to encrypt highly sensitive communication between your browser and our server. This protects the transfer of information between you and us. The SSL process is widely used on many shopping websites. We use the SSL process in two areas on our site: at the checkout in our store, and when you log in as a member or make changes to your membership information in the My Account section.

The safekeeping of the information that you entrust to us is very important, so we take several steps to protect it.

First of all, to protect your personal information we have some of the best firewall and software intrusion detection systems available today. A firewall prevents unauthorized access to our network and our databases. An intrusion detection system keeps a close watch on the servers and lets us know right away if someone is attempting to break into our systems.
Additionally, highly sensitive information, such as your credit card number, is first changed into scrambled code, through a process called encryption.

If you are making a purchase in our online store, your information, including your encrypted credit card number, is stored in our database. The entire transmission is securely encrypted.

Your password is encrypted in a one-way encryption process, which means that while our system can recognize you when you put in your member or user name and password, we don't have access to your password. If you lose it, it can only be emailed to the address that you signed up with.
